Who we are
GEEL is an African development organization rooted in the Horn of Africa and working across Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and South Sudan. We bring together local leadership, knowledge of regional markets and practical partnerships to respond to the priorities of communities and institutions.
GEEL works with governments, businesses, investors, development partners and civil society. Its programmes link enterprise development and market systems with livelihoods, resilient public services, health systems and environmental sustainability.
Our vision and mission
Vision: An inclusive, healthy and prosperous Horn of Africa where people, enterprises and institutions thrive in resilient and sustainable communities.
Mission: To strengthen enterprises, health systems and livelihoods through locally led solutions, regional partnerships and inclusive development across the Horn of Africa.
What makes our approach distinctive
We begin by understanding the local context, not by imposing a standard intervention. We work through local institutions and market actors, combining technical support, partnerships, capacity development and evidence-based decision making.
Regional cooperation enables GEEL to connect experience across countries while adapting delivery to each national and local context.
Our core values
- Integrity and accountability: responsible stewardship, transparency and trustworthy relationships.
- Inclusion and equity: opportunities that reach women, young people and underserved communities.
- Innovation and learning: practical new ideas informed by evidence and experience.
- Partnership: cooperation with public, private and community stakeholders.
- Sustainability: durable institutions, livelihoods and environmental outcomes.
